# 7.1.0 won't start after upgrading. How to troubleshoot?

I'm on linux and running `sudo systemctl start elasticsearch` doesn't start the service as it normally does. That command just hangs and doesn't complete. Running `systemctl status elasticsearch` shows it in a status of `activating`. The file `/var/log/elasticsearch/elasticsearch.log` doesn't show anything. There's no other log information or anything I can see so I have no idea what's causing this. It started right after upgrading to 7.1.0 from 7.0.1. How can I troubleshoot this?
