# Adding X-Pack to the existing elasticsearch cluster

We have a multi node elasticsearch cluster with Hot and warm data nodes, master nodes and coordinating nodes.  
Wanted to know whether X-Pack can been added to the cluster nodes with rolling restart?

Unfortunately not. The Security functionality requires all nodes to be running X-Pack at once.

Yes. All nodes need to be shutdown, the plugin installed, and then brought up.
