# Additional entry in mappings as \_timestamp when upgraded to ES 2.3

I have indices built in 1.0.2 and now when upgraded to 2.3.3, it is able to identify the indices properly, but there is an additional entry in mappings as "\_timestamp": {}  
And i see that this is not supported in 5.x. Why is this entry auto-added? Is there a way to disable this?
