I would like to find out if AIX and Solaris will be supported with Elastic Search in the future. What is typically the main issue of the incompatibility? I've heard discussions that AIX is doable with ES but painful.

We don't test on aix or Solaris so it might work and it might not. I'd it does work now it could break in a patch release. We do more than most Java code that cares about the is so it is quite possible for it not to work.
