Hi,

I have an elastic cluster of 3 data nodes,3 masters and 3 clients.
curl -v -u admin [http://localhost:9200/\_cluster/health?pretty](http://localhost:9200/_cluster/health?pretty) --noproxy '\*'

{
"cluster\_name" : "myesdb",
"status" : "red",
"timed\_out" : false,
"number\_of\_nodes" : 9,
"number\_of\_data\_nodes" : 3,
"active\_primary\_shards" : 0,
"active\_shards" : 0,
"relocating\_shards" : 0,
"initializing\_shards" : 0,
**"unassigned\_shards" : 75,**
"delayed\_unassigned\_shards" : 0,
"number\_of\_pending\_tasks" : 0,
"number\_of\_in\_flight\_fetch" : 0,
"task\_max\_waiting\_in\_queue\_millis" : 0,
"active\_shards\_percent\_as\_number" : 0.0
}
I attached 1GB volume to each of datanodes. The volumes are full and all shards are found in unassigned state( curl --noproxy '\*' -v -u admin -XGET '[http://localhost:9200/\_cat/shards](http://localhost:9200/_cat/shards)'
I created new volumes and restarted the nodes, but still the cluster is in state red and all nodes are still in unassigned state.

I tried with the following settings, but still the shards are not re-balanced and the cluster is in status red. How can I solve the unassigned shard problem?

"cluster.routing.allocation.allow\_rebalance" : "always",
"cluster.routing.allocation.cluster\_concurrent\_rebalance" : 10
"cluster.routing.rebalance.enable" : "all"

So you removed the existing data volumes and added new ones?

If that is the case, then you will never be able to assign those shards as the data is lost.
