# API End-point Monitoring

How to monitor the API end-points. Have checked the Heartbeat link: [https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/beats/heartbeat/current/index.html](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/beats/heartbeat/current/index.html).

Looks to be it is still in Beta. So wanted to know what is the standard way of monitoring the API end points and send an email/alert/notification if is down.

Checking for an endpoint being up is clearly the domain of heartbeat. [This meta issue](https://github.com/elastic/beats/issues/3952) contains the roadmap to GA.

You can combine heartbeat e.g. with Logstash (e.g. email output) or [X-Pack Alerting](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/x-pack/current/xpack-alerting.html) to send some notifications.

Have you tried heartbeat yet? It would be interesting to learn if you hit any limitations, which might be improved upon before GA.
