# APM to monitor elastic service

Can I monitor elastic service using APM? If yes, how can I configure the apm agent for elasticsearch service.

Are you referring to monitoring connections from your app to Elasticsearch, or monitor the Elasticsearch process it self?

Monitor the elasticsearch process itself.  
I have xpack monitoring already installed.  
Can I use APM for my elasticsearch process itself?

No Elastic APM isn't designed for that, what you need instead depends on your needs.

The [X-Pack Monitoring](https://www.elastic.co/products/x-pack/monitoring) you mentioned already gives you a lot of insights. But I imagine you're looking for something else that X-Pack Monitoring doesn't provide?
