# Are there any benefits of running elasticsearch in linux and not windows?

I was wondering if there are any significant performance differences between Linux, Windows and Docker.

Probably only a difference in your sanity ... actually, I have no idea and doubt much difference (others will comment, I'm sure), but in my opinion, Linux is the simplest and makes your life easiest 😉

Docker is great for testing, running many versions, having several nodes or moving them around, etc. but especially now with embedded Java, Elasticsearch is just so easy to install & run on normal Linux that Docker adds complexity with no benefit to me.

Windows is, well, Windows 😉
