# Assign to hot nodes via ILM

Hi,

I can allocate shards to warm and cold nodes via ILM but do I really have to mess with templates if I want to have shards in the hot phase allocated to hot nodes? I can't find a way in the gui or the logstash configuration to achieve this as easy as with warm and cold nodes. At least not in 6.8 .
