# Authenticate AD users with kibana

Hi,

i am able to authenticate and authorize AD user with elasticsearch

[root@elastic1 ~]# curl -u abhay -k "[http://192.168.58.174:9200/\_cluster/health?pretty](http://192.168.58.174:9200/_cluster/health?pretty)"  
Enter host password for user 'abhay':  
{

}  
[root@elastic1 ~]#

but using this user i am not be able to login with kibana

{"statusCode":401,"error":"Unauthorized","message":"[security\_exception] unable to authenticate user [ratan] for REST request [/\_security/\_authenticate], with { header={ WWW-Authenticate="Basic realm=\"security\" charset=\"UTF-8\"" } }"}

I'm sorry but you haven't provided anywhere near enough information for us to be able to help you.

What is the relationship between the `abhay` and then `ratan` users?  
I don't understand why you are showing us the `curl` login for 1 user and then talk about Kibana for the other user.
