# Beats require setup with elasticsearch as the output before using logstash as the output

I have elk running in k8s. When I configure the beats to ship logs straight to elasticsearch, logs flow smoothly. However, I can't get the beats to ship logs to Logstash. There is a work around that I use to get this work. I first setup the beat to use the elasticsearch as the output, then I modify the beat's config to use logstash as the output.  
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
