The documentation
[http://www.elasticsearch.org/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/current/docs-update.html#docs-update](http://www.elasticsearch.org/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/current/docs-update.html#docs-update)
for detect\_noop suggests that it only works for doc updates versus script
updates. Am I interpreting that correctly?

Yes. If you want noop script updates you have to do something else. There
are docs on the script page.
