# Best Elkstack setup and system requirements

Hi there,

I'm running a Elkstack (Elastic,Llogstash and Kibana) on one VM to process large log files. The resources are shared with another VM but that VM does not use a lot of the server resources.

I constantly run into IO problems, can you please tell me what would be the best setup for an Elkstack environment. would it make a difference to split and run all the applications on different VM's (On Same server)?

Your input would be appreciated.

If it's an IO problem then spinning up more VMs will probably not help.

What disks do you have and what filesystem are you running? If you can give Elasticsearch dedicated fast storage, that might help.
