# Can ES rename or aliases a type?

Can ES rename or aliases a type?  
If yes, how?

Hi @arsenepark,

no, this is not possible. See also this [related discussion](https://discuss.elastic.co/t/alias-for-type/12040/5) (although the thread is a bit dated, it is still not possible).
