# Can I add new field to child documents for existing indices

Hi

I am trying to add new field for existing indices.  
whereas my indices has parent child relationship.  
i am able to add new field to parent type but it is not allowing to add child type. it is throwing "The \_parent field's type option cannot be changed" error.

Please help me out to solve this issue.
