# Can Kibana create a visualization or canvas graph with two indexes?

Can a Canvas or Visualization user two indexes to make a graph?

For a basic visualization, you can [create a Kibana index pattern](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/kibana/7.5/index-patterns.html) that matches the indices that you want to query and then build the visualization on top of that index pattern.

In Canvas you can actually define the indices you want to hit in an ad hoc fashion per visualization, so you don't have to define an index pattern ahead of time, though it can be helpful if you are querying the same pattern across a lot of different visualizations.
