# Can not configure index template through json file?

I am trying to upgrade ES from 1.7 to 2.3. I found that my index template under config/template. But it can not be picked up. Is this feature been removed from 2.3?

Yes, it is no longer possible to specify mappings via config files, see [this page](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/2.1/mapping-conf-mappings.html).
