# Can we update the index name without affecting the existing indexing and search functionality

I already insert the some data to Elastic Search Server.Now,i wanted to
change the index name.
Is this possible?how we can change the index name.
If possible,whether it affects search functionality or not?
Please help me.

Hi,
If index name need to be changed, the provided [link](http://www.elasticsearch.org/blog/changing-mapping-with-zero-downtime/) states that it should be reindexed. If possible can you let me know, how to do re-indexing, what exactly mean of reindexing.
Please let me also know, If I am wrong here.

It means index again your documents from your source (or from elasticsearch) in another index.
What is unclear?
