# Can we use dense vector field in ES v7.10 for free?

With my installation of elasticsearch v7.10. I see x-pack enabled is true. So I am assuming the free features in x-pack is available to use.
When i create a mapping with data type dense vector, I am able to do so and also can query on it. Does this mean that dense vector is a free offering of x-pack which can be used without any licencing?

I don't remember when this has been introduced but probably yes it was available with the basic license with this very old version.
I'd suggest that you upgrade to 7.17 or much better to 8.8 so you can use so many other goodies with the built in basic license 😊
