# Canvas vs Visualisations

Hi,
I was **really** interested in the 6.5 release with the canvas functionality. Just grabbed it today to give it a spin. My expectation was that you'd be able to save the canvas as a new visualisation so that you can incorporate & re-use it into your dashboards.
More than a bit disappointed that this is not the case!
It now seems like a piece of functionality that 'sticks out of the side' a bit.
What's the thinking on having it in it's own sidebar section rather than as another visualisation component for dashboards?

The end goal is to transition the visualizations and canvas workpads to the same backend which will allow them them to be used together, but that is some way away.
