# Cardinality and precision\_threshold

can someone please explain the precision\_threshold parameter?  
when reading the explanation, I understand it as "number of values that elastic will calculate accurately".

the documentation says that the default is 3000, but I've noticed that I can get wrong values, when looking for uniqe users count, even where there are 20 documents in the filtered result.

what am I missing here?
