# Change location of data and config folders (Kibana on Windows)

How do I change the location of the data and config folders in kibana from the default?

The data directory can be configured via the [kibana.yml setting](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/kibana/current/settings.html) `path.data`. The kibana.yml file can be specified at startup with the `--config` flag
