# Change mapping from text to match\_only\_text

Existing indices having field `app.message` in text field type. now it has to be changed from "text" to "match\_only\_text" for new records. Will it impact any of the searches?

Hi Vijaya, Welcome to the Elastic community.

It will not allow to change the type of existing field. However you can add new filed with type `match_only_text`.

OR

You can create new index with mapping `match_only_text` and reindex your data.
