# Changing password of elasticsearch user after expiration of x-pack

Can we change password of elasticsearch user after expiration of x-pack (installed using basic configuration) for Elasticsearch v5.6.2?

You must upgrade your cluster.  
There's no free built-in security for this version as it has been made free from 6.5 IIRC.

And anyway, it's super urgent that you upgrade your cluster to at the very least 7.17, and better 8.9 while you are at it...
