# Changing paths (log & data) to home

Hello,

It seems that I can't change the paths of the logs and data in the yml file to /home/thing path. When I do, elasticsearch will fail its start.

```
path.data: /home/elastic/data/elasticsearch
path.logs: /home/elastic/log/elasticsearch

```

I'm running ES on centos7, rpm install.  
Any insights on this ?

Sorry I found the problem just after posting the thread --' (have been searching for a long time)

It was a permission problem, needed to full chmod the path.
