Hi,

This is first post here as I started working with ES recently.
I am using ES of AWS where I have daily log indexing on ES. Currently my cluster is status RED. I found that one of the index is read and the status of that index as follows:

{
"cluster\_name" : "abc',
"status" : "red",
"timed\_out" : false,
"number\_of\_nodes" : 11,
"number\_of\_data\_nodes" : 11,
"active\_primary\_shards" : 1,
"active\_shards" : 2,
"relocating\_shards" : 0,
"initializing\_shards" : 0,
"unassigned\_shards" : 8,
"number\_of\_pending\_tasks" : 0,
"indices" : {
"cwl-2016.02.19" : {
"status" : "red",
"number\_of\_shards" : 5,
"number\_of\_replicas" : 1,
"active\_primary\_shards" : 1,
"active\_shards" : 2,
"relocating\_shards" : 0,
"initializing\_shards" : 0,
"unassigned\_shards" : 8,
"shards" : {
"0" : {
"status" : "red",
"primary\_active" : false,
"active\_shards" : 0,
"relocating\_shards" : 0,
"initializing\_shards" : 0,
"unassigned\_shards" : 2
},
"1" : {
"status" : "red",
"primary\_active" : false,
"active\_shards" : 0,
"relocating\_shards" : 0,
"initializing\_shards" : 0,
"unassigned\_shards" : 2
},
"2" : {
"status" : "red",
"primary\_active" : false,
"active\_shards" : 0,
"relocating\_shards" : 0,
"initializing\_shards" : 0,
"unassigned\_shards" : 2
},
"3" : {
"status" : "green",
"primary\_active" : true,
"active\_shards" : 2,
"relocating\_shards" : 0,
"initializing\_shards" : 0,
"unassigned\_shards" : 0
},
"4" : {
"status" : "red",
"primary\_active" : false,
"active\_shards" : 0,
"relocating\_shards" : 0,
"initializing\_shards" : 0,
"unassigned\_shards" : 2
}
}
}
}
}

What should I do on it?
Please advice.

Thanks.

You should check the ES logs to find out what is happening to the shard, it'll be unassigned for some reason.
