# Could not start elastic search 6.5.1 windows 8

Running ES 6.5.1  
I have java intalled : jdk-8u181-windows-x64.exe

trying to launch the elasticsearch.bat file gives us this:

```auto
C:\Users\testuser\Desktop\ElasticSearch\elasticsearch-6.5.1\bin>elasticsearch

\Common was unexpected at this time.

```

We do not get any logs.

Make sure you **set "JAVA\_HOME=C:\Program Files\Java\your\_jdk\_version"**

and in the command prompt you must fine

> java version "1.8.0\_92"  
> Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0\_92-b14)
