Why not use the existing Security functionality?

Implementing a custom realm is more work than we can reasonable assist with on a forum like this.

There's some documentation available:

- [Integrating with other authentication systems | Elasticsearch Reference [7.10] | Elastic](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/7.10/custom-realms.html)
- [How to Develop Your Own Security Extensions and Custom Realms for Elasticsearch | Elastic Blog](https://www.elastic.co/blog/how-to-develop-your-own-security-extensions-and-custom-realms-for-elasticsearch) (this blog is getting a bit old).

You could also contact Elastic and ask about consulting options.

What is the driver behind creating your own security plugin? Do you have an unusual or custom authentication method that is not supported out of the box?
