hi there

we are considering open source ELK as the basis for a project we are working on but it will be necessary to add some custom plugins to achieve what we want to do.

we see that custom plugins are only available to Gold and Platinum on the hosted version - i wondered if anyone here could tell me if the opensource version can take a custom plugin without being modified?

many thanks in advance

Hey @tomma100,

The OSS version is more than capable of supporting custom plugins! There is a developer guide here to get you started: [https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/kibana/current/plugin-development.html](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/kibana/current/plugin-development.html)

I think the distinction is that the Elasticsearch Service doesn't host the OSS version for you, so if you want to build on top of the OSS version, you won't be able to take advantage of Elastic's cloud offering to do so.

That is exactly the clarification I was after. Thanks
