# Date Filter Question

Hi all,
Currently I have a use case where I have to do some calculation on the time, therefore I need to use date filter plugin in order to parse dates from field.
But I dont want to use that date or timestamp as the logstash timestamp for the event as it is not correct.
Any idea how I can fix this?

You can just set the [target](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/logstash/current/plugins-filters-date.html#plugins-filters-date-target) field of the filter to something other than `@timestamp`, e.g. `target => "[@metadata][temp_ts]"`. Then you'll have a field with the result that won't appear in your output.
