# Deprecated field \[template\] used, replaced by \[index\_patterns\]

While I was deleting one of my old snapshot, I noticed following message:

> \< Warning: 299 Elasticsearch-6.2.1-7299dc3 "Deprecated field [template] used, replaced by [index\_patterns]" "Mon, 19 Feb 2018 16:52:33 GMT"

however, I don't really see anything about _template_ being deprecated at [Index Templates | Elasticsearch Reference [6.2] | Elastic](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/6.2/indices-templates.html). Assuming that Elasticsearch Reference is just "slightly" behind, is [Index Patterns | Kibana User Guide [6.2] | Elastic](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/kibana/current/index-patterns.html) what templates being replaced with?

Please advise.
