# Document Count is same however index size is growing - How?

Hi All,

As shown below in the snaphot, even though document count is same for a index, index size is growing marginally. Could you please provide some insights why this might happen?. Is it due to merge process?

ES 2.3.2

No, I am not updating any docs. Average size is around 100KB

It looks like the increase in size corresponds to the indexing activity shown in the indexing rate graph. It also looks like that indexing activity occurs at a regular interval. Does this interval and its timing correspond to any system task or activity?
