# Does logstash need a restart when a geoip database is updated?

Does logstash need a restart when a geoip database is updated?  
There are a lot of questions for same in previous logstash versions. I was wondering if this is still true for logstash 7.  
Did not find information regarding a logstash restart in the docs either.

Yes it does. See [this](https://github.com/maxmind/GeoIP2-java/issues/27) issue.
