I am wondering whether it is serial or parallel.

If it's parallel, I want to know how many things are processed at the same time.

It is parallel and asynchronous. You can control this with the [limit](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/beats/heartbeat/current/configuration-heartbeat-options.html#heartbeat-scheduler-limit) option.
