# Downgrading from Gold licence to basic

Hi, I have Elasticsearch version 6.8 with a gold license in a cluster environment. We are going to update to a latest version of 8.2 and later downgrade the cluster to a basic license (we can't afford the gold at the moment)  
Can you please check if the list below is enough to prepare for downgrade:

- checking every gold features that we are using, we need probably disable it in config and be ready to operate without it.
- ask about standard license and install it after expired.

Elasticsearch version 6.8 is [EOL](https://www.elastic.co/support/eol) and no longer supported. Please upgrade ASAP.

The Basic license is included by default when you spin up a new cluster.

Which leads me to suggest that the best approach to upgrade is to start a new 8.2 cluster, then do a remote reindex to pull the 6.8 data across to it.
