# Editable field on dashboard

Hello Giorgio,

It depends on what you mean by "editable". If you mean modifiable for an interactive dashboard, then you might be interested in [input controls](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/kibana/current/for-dashboard.html#add-input-controls). If you mean editing Elasticsearch indexed docs, you could use [dev tools](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/kibana/current/console-kibana.html) for that purpose. If you wanted to modify docs via a visualization, it might be possible through [painless scripting](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/painless/master/painless-update-by-query-context.html).

i would like to have an editable field on the index that can be edited through a visualization displayed on kibana.

For example in the following view I would like to be able to edit the rulename or host name field.
