# Elastic Search 5.x - unable to search date stored as text type

I have created an index - has fields of text , date types
one of the date field stored as text field in elastic.
In Kibana, I am not able to search for specific date in this field
(sample search - datefield:"2017-01-01")
Can someone tell me what am I missing ?
