# Elastic Search with Encrypted EBS volume

If I create a new Encrypted EBS volume to my EC2 instance and get Elasticsearch to store and retrieve data from this new encrypted volume, do we need to do any configuration in Elastic Search to enable it to read or write to the encrypted volume? - I.E. Will elastic search need to handle the encryption/decryption?

My guess is that only the machine (Vm) needs to be aware of it.

Note that we don't really recommend using EBS drives as they can be much slower than local disks.
