# Elastics search .bat not opening after downloading

I have just installed the ELK stack and I am trying to launch the elasticseatch.bat file like it says in the setup guide. However when try to open the file a command script opens for a a split second and then closes. Has anyone had an error like this in the past?

Welcome to Elastic forum!

I believe you are double-clicking the `bat` file. Kindly launch it from a shell/terminal like

> ./elasticsearch.bat

So when I started it via the command prompt I got this error.

As the error message states, elasticsearch is unable to start as the file already exists.

Kindly copy the file and delete from existing location.  
Start `elasticsearch` . If it doesn't start kindly create it again using this [link](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/current/secure-settings.html#creating-keystore)
