# ElasticSearch 8 not automatically setting up SSL

Very odd...the first time I ran elasticsearch, at the end it showed me what I was expecting..the elastic user password, the encrollment token and cert fingerprint. I wanted to reinstall on a new machine, and no matter how many times I try, I cannot see that anymore. At this point I feel like I'm left to manually configure this, which is not ideal.

This is on Windows, self hosted elasticsearch

Is there something that I have to do to trigger that?

There are a number of reasons that auto security is skipped after initial installation etc and they are detailed [here](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/current/configuring-stack-security.html#stack-skip-auto-configuration) .

In short once you have run auto security setup ... you pretty much have to start from scratch (delete the data directory, elasticsearch.keystore... all the setting etc... it is destructive!
