# Elasticsearch Cloud API Authentication

Hi,

I'm trying to figure how to authenticate REST API use against our Elasticsearch cloud instance.  
I understand how to use the cloud id etc when using a client library in a language such as Python however in my use case I am unable to use the supported libraries. I need to build from scratch with a basic HTTP request, ensuring I've the appropriate authentication token. I just can't find clear documentation.

Support declined to offer help on the topic stating it was a consultative request! Hence turning to the community. Hope you can help point me in the right direction.

The cloud id is unrelated to authentication. It's just a set of encoded urls.
