# Elasticsearch could not find Java and now won't start

What output does Elasticsearch give that indicates it has trouble finding the JVM home? For example, this might be output printed to `stderr`, or it might be output in the `journal` depending on your installation. And can you provide supporting evidence that it is setup in the local environment?
