# Elasticsearch for DNA sequence analysis

I am interested if Elasticsearch has been used for this before. I saw one article about using Elasticsearch for DNA, but it didn't go into much detail about how it was used and from the looks of it I'd imagine with wasn't really analyzing the DNA itself but maybe just the metadata they indexed on it.

I am interested in working with a researcher friend of mine to create a custom analyzer for Elasticsearch which can analyze DNA sequence field types, kind of like how it can already analyze geopoint data.

Has this been done already? If not, how would I go about finding out how to start integrating this analyzer into Elasticsearch?
