# Elasticsearch system indices

Hi team,

we are using self self-managed Elasticsearch cluster. And we are using self-monitoring monitoring.

So Elasticsearch creates monitoring logs named ".monitoring-es-7-_" automatically and these indices are not associated with any ILM policies.  
My question is my cluster version is 8.8.2 then why it is .monitoring-es-7-_ and why not .monitoring-es-8-\* and how I can change it. I am sharing the attachment.
