With the release of debian 13 on August 9 ([Debian 13 Set to Launch on August 9](https://linuxiac.com/debian-13-set-to-launch-on-august-9/#:~:text=Debian%2013%20Set%20to%20Launch,begins%20on%20July%2027%2C%202025.)), is it safe for me to update my servers to this latest version? or will I have compatibility issues between ELK 8.19 (Emphasis on Kibana, as is what the clients access) and Debian 13?

Appreciate the help

You can check up to date OS and Elasticsearch compatibility matrix in the following link. [Support Matrix | Elastic](https://www.elastic.co/support/matrix)

**Update: 7 Aug 2025**

1. Debian 10 compatible with Elasticsearch 6.8.x - Elasticsearch 8.19.x
2. Debian 11 compatible with Elasticsearch 7.16.x - Elasticsearch 8.19.x
3. Debian 12 compatible with Elasticsearch +9.x
4. Debian 13 compatible with Elasticsearch - not officially announced.

**What happens if you use unsupported version?**

- One of my customer tried to use not officially supported OS version. Elasticsearch worked fine but filebeat crashed.
- You can’t get support from Elastic support.
- There can be missing dependencies or broken integrations
- Elasticsearch may fail to start, crash unexpectedly, or behave unpredictably.

As a result, it’s recommended to wait until it’s officially supported.
