# Enable "basic" ES features on local ES rpm installation

Hi,
I installed elasticsearch via the rpm repository. However, it is unclear to me what steps I need to take to switch from the OSS to the " Basic - free and open" version as advertised [here](https://www.elastic.co/subscriptions).
(I want to use the dense vector feature and switching the version seems to be the solution as suggested in [this thread for example](https://discuss.elastic.co/t/no-handler-for-type-dense-vector-for-version-7-4-2/223819/4).)
Does anyone know the steps or the page where they are descriped?

Hey,
you need to install `elasticsearch` instead of the `elasticsearch-oss` package, if you are using an older Elasticsearch distribution. However if you are using Elasticsearch 7.11 or above, you don't need to do anything, and are ready to use the dense vectors.
