Hello,

When I modify the file 'elasticsearch.yml' by adding the line 'xpack.security.enabled: true', then Kibana does not work.

I have already read all the doc on the web but still did not get to solve it.

Please, could you help me?

Welcome to our community! 😃

What do you mean by "Kibana does not work"?

Hello warkolm! Thank you very much for your response.

What I did to enable xpack in ElasticSearch version 6.8 was to change the 'elasticsearch.yml' file by adding a new line:

xpack.security.enabled: true

When I restart the services to see the changes, the Elastic Search service does not start properly.

Please, I appreciate your help and would really wanna know the reason why this is happening.

Thank you so much again.

Edit: I also tried [adding this new line](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/6.8/get-started-enable-security.html#get-started-enable-security) 'discovery.type: single-node' and the services now work without being stopped. When accessing Kibana the following message is shown 'Kibana server is not ready yet'.

You should check your Elasticsearch and Kibana logs.

Please, could you be more specific?

How can I enable the xpack security plugin on ES 6.8?

Did you follow all the steps [described in the documentation](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/6.8/configuring-security.html)?

Yes, and I did not achieve it. That is why I am posting on this topic... 🙂

OK, so you have set up certificates and configured users. Did you follow [the docs on setting up Kibana](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/kibana/7.9/using-kibana-with-security.html) as well?
