# ES errors - illegal\_argument\_exception

Im getting the following error

```auto
{"error":{"root_cause":[{"type":"illegal_argument_exception","reason":"No endpoint or operation is available at [search_shards]"}],"type":"illegal_argument_exception","reason":"No endpoint or operation is available at [search_shards]"},"status":400

```

Cluster is green.

Are you trying to use the [search shards API](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/current/search-shards.html)? If so, it should be `_search_shards` (note the leading underscore) instead of `search_shards`.
