Hi ES Users,

I was wondering if anyone knows whether its a) possible and b) done
elsewhere to use ES, logstash and kibana to collect and analyse user data
from learning management systems like moodle, blackboard, desire2learn and
combine it with other data sources to create a platform to monitor and
report on student performance & interactions with learning resources with
the aim of flagging possible issues before they result in dropping out

Its not log4j but also not a million miles away being time stamped data.
I've no insight into the possible sources of the data but just interested
to know if others are doing something similar

Michael

Hi,

ES and Kibana - yes. Logstash - no need to use that for this sort of data.
All you need is _something_ to feed data to ES. Any sort of ES client
will do.

Try [Sematext Logs | Cloud Log Management Service | Hosted ELK](http://sematext.com/logsene/) -- you can feed it your data/events and
query it programmatically (it exposes an ES API) or access your data via
Kibana which you'll see once you create your Logsene app. It's free.

Thanks for the suggestion, I think because of the personal nature of the
data and the long period it could be active for (4 year for an undergrad
degree) and the need to keep the data for defined periods after that any
solution would probably have to have a way to store the data long term in
validated locations probably on-premise
