# Field Boosting and tie\_breaker while using best\_fields from Multi\_match Query

How is [tie\_breaker](https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/current/query-dsl-multi-match-query.html#multi-match-types) calculated when we also perform field boosting on a multi\_match query with type=best\_fields. Does field field boosting happen first and then the tie breaker computation?
